The right of refusal to testify is limited to strictly enumerated members of the family and family-in-law of a party to proceedings.
A witness may refuse to answer a particular question if it could entail criminal liability, disgrace or a severe and direct proprietary damage for him or the members of his family or if it could be connected with violation of professional secrecy. The court may impose a fine on a witness in a case of unjustified absence, refusal to testify or refusal to answer a question.
